🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳 Phu Quoc, Vietnam - February 6, 2026

​Last full day here. Passed on the Gondola thing which I’ve heard is very good and instead another day exploring more of the place and going to the Symphony of the Sea Chill Show.

Bougainvillea City. This place more than takes advantage of this wonderful tropical plant/shrub/tree. The collage represents a few of the many colour variations. It also doubles as a bonsai of all colours, a bush, a specimen plant, a vine and a houseplant.

Again … this best of uses!

Time out for lunch … taking advantage of the many bakeries and restaurants!

I short, a great visit here in Phu Quoc ..

Recommended hotel … Le Bonheur … Sunset Town … reasonable price about CAD $47 per night…boutique hotel … warm friendly host … breakfast available offsite … fireworks nightly you can view from your balcony or just a few steps out front … great location

NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!! In the strongest possible terms. AIR ASIA is possibly Asia’s worst airline for customer care. Small airport here with new one under construction. Air Asia’s poor customer service is simply overwhelmed. Two service personnel at check in with massive unorganized lineups. Four empty VietJet counters next door? Many customers yelling at staff for service issues. Once checked in, had to wade through solid crowd of passengers to get to departure gates. Two hours to get to gate from airport entry. Waited in hot jammed packed collector bus for 15 minutes to get to airplane. Not even offered water on plane! Everything Air Asia is for money … felt like a pig in slaughter house! Shabby and noisy airplane. Again DO NOT USE AIR ASIA !

🇻🇳🇻🇳🇻🇳 Phu Quoc, Vietnam - February 5, 2026

​As mentioned, the final 2 days here in Phu Quoc moved to the southern tip of the island. Here the huge development is even more apparent. With the historic French Colonial past combined with a little Disneyland and a lot of Pho Quoc you have a destination that offers over 1100 hotels and resorts. Elaborate shows, beaches, cable car rides over small islands, interesting architecture, restaurants of all descriptions and night markets plus plus plus. Phu Quoc is proving much more than I expected. I only do minimal investigation and planning for my trips hoping to be amazed at my discovery. I am.

Reminiscent of Lombard Street in San Francisco, this Bougainvillea covered walkway is beautiful !

Just one of over 2000 electric vehicles here, this buggy is one of many which offer public transport. Used by hotels a great deal as well.

Evening came fast … a small sampling 

Bakeries everywhere … Pecan cake with butterscotch icing and banana cake with Coconut iced coffees

9:30 nightly fireworks just 25 steps out our hotel front door. Poor photos which don’t begin to justify the show.

​A second day here and no better way to spend it (for me) than Vinpearl Safari (Pho Quoc Zoo).

The stars of the place were the Binturong or Bear Cat. Uncommon in nature. 

In the evening it was back to the same area as last night. Different food though … from Uzbekistan! Beef, mushrooms and sauce with rice and dill weed.

​My fourth trip to Vietnam. Love it! On a recommendation of a friend, I made plans to visit this extraordinary island. Only four days to sample the delights. Offering a wealth of things to do, I’ll only get to sample a few in the short 4 days I am here. Splitting my stay in two separate hotels will do it. The island is large and actually situated off the coast of Cambodia. Phu Quoc offerings extraordinary snorkeling and beaches, Little Venice, Casinos, Vinpool Safari park, Island-hopping and more more more. My first day …
