🇲🇴🇲🇴🇲🇴 JW February 21, 2024 - Macau - A-Ma Temple

 This amazing UNESCO World Heritage site dedicated to the Chinese sea goddess Mazu built in 1488 is said to have given Macau its name.

Smokey enough, my camera had difficulty focusing

Despite the smoke, this Hibiscus still blooms

I renamed this the temple of smoke. Incense burning, fire crackers intermittently and burning things everywhere. Even the cigarette ashtray was smoking!

🇲🇴🇲🇴🇲🇴 JW - February 20, 2024 - Macau

 The second day here and off to bolster The Venetian Hotel and Casino’s coffers. While I was there, I did take a few pictures. 

Gaming in Macau is huge. It’s a generator of 54,000 jobs and has 30 casinos. It produces more than $7.16 B Canadian in revenue. As much as 7 times more revenue than Las Vegas. 78% of Macaus taxes come from gaming.

The Venetian itself is the 2nd largest casino in the world, 10,500,000 sq ft floor space, 3000 rooms at $377 CAD per night. It is owned by the Sands and built on reclaimed land.

🇲🇴🇲🇴🇲🇴 JW Macau - February 19, 2024

 A couple of hours from Bangkok and I’m in Macau. Arrived mid afternoon and staying in “Old Macau”. Walked the narrow streets until the ruins of St Paul’s, the 16th century Catholic Church built by the Portuguese. More on this later. As you can see, I wasn’t the only visitor.
