Next stop, the Meiji Shrine, 明治神宮 Meiji Jingū Shibuya Tokyo. Built originally as a Shinto shrine for Emperor Meiji, emperor of Japan from 1867 to 1912, during whose reign Japan was dramatically transformed from a feudal country into one of the great powers of the modern world. Built in a forest of 120,00 donated trees it was constructed by labour and money with Japanese from all over the country.

*** One interesting note of many. Japan, the home of many great automotive manufacturers has a major parking crunch in Tokyo. You must first obtain a parking space BEFORE you purchase a vehicle. Parking spaces will cost you 32,000 yen (C$375) per month!
