🧳🇹🇭🧳 BANGKOK, THAILAND - January 23, 2019 - Bangkok Canals

Bangkok’s Khlongs or Canals predate Venice Canals by hundreds of years. Once a great source of commerce, transport and life they still remain although many no longer what they once were. I’ve had a few encounters with these over the years but aside from the pungency and look, they remain a source of interest and I guess, charm. Today I took a canal boat for 7 bridges with a stopover and return. Cost 200 baht (C$8.42). A glimpse of canal life.

Can you imagine?

One of the denizens of waterways adapted to city life. Quite common, water monitor lizards can grow up to 6.5 feet (1.98m) and weight up to 110 pounds (49.9kg) and intimidating but will generally flee from humans. They are not liked much by Thais and uttering their name carries superstitious overtones and can be very insulting if called that!

And on the other side ... district of Khao Sin Road. My friend says popular with stingy falang (budget travellers)..... shopping and more

Bowls of wonder
