Getting around Pattaya

As in the rest of Thailand, there are taxis here in Pattaya but most use a Songthaew (baht bus) which literally means 2 benches. This is a converted 1/4 ton truck where a cover, benches and tailgate serve to hold passengers. They hold up to 15 or 16 passengers. The cost has been 10 baht (C$.35) forever. They go on designated routes but can go off route for passengers if requested. As well they are available for private hire with negotiable costs.

The colourful taxis which run by a meter, air conditioned and cost $3 and up depending on the distance travelled.

Motorcycle taxis are the other popular service. There is the more common single bike which can accommodate up to 3 passengers. Cost is usually 50 baht ($C1.75) but added to if going a longer  distance or if two passengers. Once I was asked to pay a little more because I was fat. I saw the humour in it and paid. In reality, he was just trying to get a little more money.

And the larger motorcycle taxi which is good for taking those plants home...

And there is also the personal conveyance...
