And then we are off to Ahu Akivi where the only Moai that face the ocean are located. Under these Moai are the remains of the islanders from long ago. Originally when tourists were allowed to roam around unfettered they would walk away with human bones and pieces of the statues. Now the area is policed 24/7 and a rim of stones marks the closest point visitors can view these priceless treasures.

And it's goodbye to Rapa Nui (Easter Island). I think this island is beautiful and the people we met, equally so. It certainly is not the barren, windswept island with strange statues I thought it was.
