May 9 .. PERU Cusco part 2

The second church we visited was the Cathedral of Santo Domingo. If was constructed on the destroyed Incan Palace of Viracocha. Starting in 1559 it took 100 years to complete. Photography was forbidden inside the church because thieves posing as tourists photographed the interior to use to break in and steal the gold and silver inside. The altar contains tons of Incan silver and gold leaf is used throughout the church.

After the cathedral, it was off to the ruins of the Incan fortress of Sacsahuaman
